Kyo Café and Lounge has officially opened on Palm Jumeirah’s Golden Mile. Signet Ring had the privilege of being invited to a pre-menu tasting before the restaurant officially opened doors to welcome guests. The offering here is a modern interpretation of quintessential Japanese cuisine. The invasion of edgier restaurants is changing the game in the city. Kyo is no less edgier and modish; sophisticated dining areas, contemporary outdoor space, modern counter bar- here you have an uninterrupted view of professionals crafting nigiri’s and sushi’s with astonishingly steady hands.

Our tasting session kicked off with Hotate- an interesting seafood appetizer of Scallop, fresh sea urchin tongue and wakame tenkasu. The dish is a spiel of buttery texture and a sting of the ocean(not fishy! note the point) may not sound appetizing, but trust me they’re delicious!

Signet Ring Seals : Shotoribu - Braised veal short ribs braised to absolute fall off the bone perfection. Befittingly seasoned ribs slow cooked for 50 hrs giving incredibly tender, moist and flavorful results. Pair this highlight with Jagaimo - Roasted potato with skin and Japanese béarnaise- there you have a winning main course!

As for the pocket rocket genius who emerged to greet the guests, it turned out, he is chef Gregory, spearheading the kitchen here. He sure came across as one who is imaginative, enjoys picking his ingredients and as one who figures out a way to make it all come together. We have fallen in love with everything he puts on the plate. In the same hood you would find clubbier scenes, serving frosted pints and crafted cocktails. Kyo is not your spot to sip and socialize as it is not licensed. If you are looking for sophisticated setting, artfully prepared modern Japanese cuisine, a space to unwind over a conversation after a busy day- add sumptuous dishes for affordable pricing, then this is the space you are looking for and it becomes irresistible!
