What : Masti
Where: La Mer, Dubai
Our first experience of La Mer is at this fun and mischievous Indian restaurant, beach front lounge and terrace. This newbie seems to embrace a free spirit by exposing us to a 'New India' in a decadent destination serving unique sharing plates.
Ambiance- Perfect for all day-dining, it occupies two floors on the beachfront with a licensed upper level housing a dedicated cocktail bar and gin room serving drinks past 5pm. Interiors reflect a sleek-fusion setting with elements ranging from traditional to modern Indian and touches of Peruvian.
Service/Food - The restaurant is by Hari Nayak a prodigy of Vineeth Bhatia, hence the plates showcase a seasoned chefs flavor-packed recipes. The menu in itself is stunning and the offering is unashamedly fusion, employing all the techniques and presentation common to the modern world (no fuss with foam and liquid nitrogen here, just pretty plates with delicious nibbles). The server who was assigned to our table was professional and knowledgeable however the other who served us was not well-versed with menu descriptions (this a minor kink to iron out and since the restaurant is new I turn a blind eye). Every item that was served was equally interesting in their own way. The absolute jewel in the crown here is their cocktails. Our favorites include T-groni (Aed 60) and So-olong Ceylon (Aed 65).
Mum-bay a pink cocktail almost too pretty to drink, prepared with a refreshing base of pink lemonade and hibiscus tea comes flavored just right with rhubarb and blackberry (Aed 40).
The sun dried tomato prawn is a must-try from the menu (Aed 85) - juicy, spicy and paired well with a lentil chaat. Pulled tandoori chicken Bao (Aed70) and steak kali mirch tacos (Aed 75) is another menu item that is perfectly executed. It has the makings of a comfort food that will have you craving for it mid-week. Brussel sprout tempered with mustard soy and ginger is a side dish that is unique and not to be missed (Aed 35).
This is a location that will make every occasion feel extra-special and a menu that boasts creativity. You are guaranteed to walk out snap-happy as every corner here is insta-good. International appeal is the winning element here. The 'Masti-ambiance' and great food/drinks here is reason enough to stop in for a cocktail and a meal. I know for certain that I will be returning to this space as this is one restaurant that commands a repeat visit.
